Is Not Meeting All Your Goals Failure?
Sometimes we don’t achieve all the goals we set for ourselves. Last week my aim was to write and submit 20 queries to magazines. That’s a lot of work. Especially when you have to come up with the ideas, figure out if they are going to work, find markets for them, compose a query letter and send them out. This can really be a time consuming activity.
I didn’t submit 20 queries.
I only managed to submit 13 queries last week. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t meet my goal, but I am happy I sent out the thirteen that I did. One of those thirteen queries has gotten me an acceptance.
Even if we don’t meet all our goals, it’s important to be pleased even with the smallest of efforts. Sometimes life will get in the way, things will come up, and writing will be put on hold. Why didn’t I meet my goal? Firstly, I procrastinated during the week, and secondly I spent my weekend kayaking 50km down a river in a beautiful forest in Poland with lots of wildlife, birds singing, swans swimming and fields of wild poppies and chamomile growing amongst wheat and wild grass. Nature really is beautiful. You can check out some of the photos on my other blog, www.an-aussie-in-poland.blogspot.com.
The goal for this week is again to send out 20 queries. I don’t have anything coming up at the weekend, so I think I should be able to make my goal by Sunday.
