It doesn’t matter what business you’re in, whether it’s personal fitness trainer and life coach, restaurant owner or travel agent, designer or writer, marketing is a must in order to survive. There’s a great marketing quotes;

Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don’t know which half.” - John Wanamaker, 19th Century American department store owner.

We need to diversify our marketing strategies in order to increase our business, sales and income, irrelevant of weather we spend a lot of money on marketing or no money at all.

Diversification is important in many areas. Being stuck in the same position is very monotonous, so is focusing on the same type of marketing. If you want to succeed you need to be able to adapt, change and mould yourself to meet the markets needs. The more flexible you are and open to new opportunities and methods, the higher your chance of making it in any business.

It’s impossible to know which marketing strategy is going to work most effectively for your business, and what works for your best friend or neighbour may not exactly have the same effect for you. Go ahead and ask for advice, do you own research and throw your net out there to see what happens. The important thing is to be ready to change your strategy for one that works.

Today, writers have an immense number of opportunities when it comes to marketing their work. Social media has become a huge hit, and so has being creative about what we do. We don’t have to stay within safety lines, we can be different, wild, exciting, modest, aggressive, funny, courteous and much more. As long as it matches to what we are trying to sell, anything goes.

Facebook, Twitter, My Space, RSS Feeds, and more have allowed us to market our work at no cost, accept for a few minutes of our time, to the rest of the world. What’s not to like about that?
