How Can I Find Those Markets
There are tens of thousands of magazines around the world which writers can write for. The problem arises when we don’t have the titles of these magazines and have no idea where to look.
I’ve been searching the Internet for markets that I can write for. My focus is essays and articles so I’ve been looking for magazines that cater in these things and in the topics that I am interested in writing about – health & fitness, money management, personal development, family & relationships, women’s issues and travel.
The way that I’ve come across many magazines online and off line is by searching the Writers Market (UK), being subscribed to a couple of writers newsletters, checking out www.writerfordollars.com, and by using Google and typing in the topic I’m interested in and the guidelines. So for example, Money + writers guidelines, or something like that. If I know the name of the magazine I just type in their name and check out their website. Most of them have submission guidelines around the ‘Contact Me’ Page. Sometimes if you browsw through they may even have an editorial calender. This is really helpful to come up with article ideas and know where you are shooting them off to. If it’s June and you find that the magazine is looking at dealing with women’s health issues in December, you can email her and offer a personal story how you overcame a serious health issuee, or an article idea, 5 Reasons You Should Get a Check Up, or something like that. If the editor sees that you’ve put in a bit of research and presented a good idea, he might just want you to write the article. If they don’t, send the idea to another magazine.
